Formula 1: Max Verstappen/Michael Schumacher comparison made

Max Verstappen reminds Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali of Michael Schumacher with elements of his performance.

The Dutchman can win a second world title as early as this weekend at the Singapore Grand Prix, though it is more likely that he will achieve the feat at either Suzuka or Austin later on in October.

Clearly, though, it has proven a dominant year for Max in the end this season, and to be on the verge of winning the championship with six rounds still to go is some feat.

It’s been a year, after a tough start due to reliability issues, that has sparked comparisons with the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher and their most dominant campaigns in their pomp and, though Max has some way to go until he can get level with them on 7 world titles, it is clear, at the moment, that Max is the man to beat.

Stefano Domenicali is a man who knows exactly what it’s like to be part of a winning machine, of course, having been at Ferrari when Schumacher was there and so he is well-placed to make the comparison between Michael and Max, saying that the Dutchman’s focus and ruthless approach to racing reminds him of the German great.

“He resembles him because he focuses on everything he does on the track,” Domenicali said to Corriere dello Sport.

“He has matured a lot, he has learned to manage his emotions. He is a cannibal, he doesn’t look anyone in the face. And in this he reminds me so much of Michael.”

A big comparison to be making but Max clearly applies himself fully to racing, as Michael did, and also has a sheer will to win that is unmatched by most of his peers.
