Formula 1 fans are blown away by just how close Max Verstappen came to wall at Saudi GP

Saudi Arabia’s tight and twisting Jeddah-Corniche street circuit is the newest edition to F1’s calendar, until the Miami Grand Prix in May that is, and it has already supplied us with some famous and perhaps more infamous moments in the two races it’s held.

The safety of the track has always been a concern to fans and officials alike. This is without the external danger of nearby missile strikes that put the race and F1’s future in Saudi Arabia into serious question this past weekend.

While the track is promised to be safe by governing bodies, and with changes being made to the track allowing more run-off areas in case of incidents, most will agree that the Jeddah circuit is the most dangerous track on the calendar.

Mick Schumacher’s horrific Q2 accident was a stark warning of the dangers of the track and left the German’s Haas scattered across it, almost snapping the car in half in the process.

Fortunately, Schumacher wasn’t seriously injured from the crash, but was declared unfit to race at Sunday’s event.

The cars were pushed to the edge in order to find the best lap times, this resulted in the track punishing drivers in the race. WilliamsNicholas Latifi was caught out and collided with the wall.

Alpine teammates Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon were seen exchanging positions during an entertaining battle. Meanwhile, the fight at the front saw both Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen in a league of their own.

Both drivers seemed to have the advantage in different moments and both pushed to the very limit, with the Dutchman even almost clipping the wall, as can be seen in the crazy footage above.
