Former Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm named the new boss of Carshalton Athletic

Ex-Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm is back in football after taking charge at Carshalton.

It's a quick return to the game for McKimm, who was sacked on Tuesday last week, just 24 hours after preserving Angels' National South status.

Barry Moore, his long-time assistant at Tonbridge, has followed him to Colston Avenue.

"I am grateful for the opportunity at Carshalton and excited at the challenge," McKimm told the Isthmian Premier club's website.

"I am going to do my very best to meet the club's ambition."

McKimm led Tonbridge to promotion, the FA Cup first round and the last 16 of the FA Trophy during eight years at Longmead.

His impressive CV made him an obvious candidate when Carshalton, who finished 12th this season, considered replacements for Peter Adeniyi, who has moved upstairs.

"Steve was the favoured candidate to lead our promotion campaign next season," said Robins owner Paul Dipre.

"He has the enthusiasm, experience and energy that Peter and I were looking for.

"Let's all rally round Steve and give him our support in his new challenge."

Carshalton are eager to climb the pyramid having last played in National South - then Conference South - in the 2005/6 season.

They finished runners-up in the Isthmian Premier in 2019 but lost to Merstham in the play-offs.

McKimm's Tonbridge went on to beat Merstham in the final before beating Met Police in a super play-off.
