Former Rangers winger returns to Kilmarnock as Derek McInnes lands Jordan Jones from Wigan

Kilmarnock have completed the signing of Jordan Jones.

The attacker - who had a hugely successful previous stint at Rugby Park - returns to the club as Derek McInnes' men bid to retain their Premiership status after returning to the top flight at the first time of asking following their Scottish Championship title success.

Jones was a key man the last time they played in Scotland's top division and earned a move to Rangers due to his form - before departing the club last year for a switch to England with Wigan Athletic on a three-year deal. He spent the second part of last season on loan at St Mirren from the Latics and he has once again returned north of the border as he bids to play regular first team football. The Northern Ireland international will wear the No10 jersey.

Speaking to Sky Sports, McInnes said: "Jordan Jones is obviously familiar to the club.

"We've been working hard on that one for the last couple of weeks. We feel he is the type of player we are going to need.

"He brings a bit more speed to the team and creativity and I think we need that added goal threat in the final third.

"He's an important player and it is an important move for Jordan as well in terms of playing regularly and getting his career going again."

Kilmarnock are already back in competitive action in the Premier Sports Cup with two wins and one draw from their three matches in the section to date. They lost out on a bonus point against Partick Thistle following a 1-1 draw.

They currently sit in top spot in Group B on seven points with one match to play against Stenhousemuir at home on Saturday.
