Former Olympian Viljoen eager for Proteas women return, targets T20 World Cup

Former Olympic silver medallist Sunette Viljoen-Louw expressed her desire to make her return to the Proteas women's set-up and play in next year's T20 World Cup.

Viljoen became an accomplished all-rounder and represented the Proteas from 2000 to 2002, playing in one Test and 17 ODIs for South Africa.

She scored 198 runs at an average of 16.50 for the Proteas women and also captured five ODI wickets.

However, Viljoen turned her attention to the track and field and represented her country in the javelin at four Olympic Games, including a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Viljoen has also competed in four Commonwealth Games and has claimed two golds, a silver and a bronze in the javelin event.

She also has a silver and bronze medal from the 2011 and 2015 World Championships.

In a Facebook post, the 38-year-old Viljoen confirmed that she wants to wear the Proteas shirt once again and is targeting next year's T20 World Cup in South Africa.

"My first and biggest love has always been cricket. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to walk to the crease. I first played for South Africa when I was 16 years old and I want to do it again," she wrote.

"I want to believe that my name is synonymous with passion, drive, determination and never, ever giving up, no matter what. I have always backed myself in whatever I commit myself to.

"I therefore want to confirm that I am committing myself to cricket 500 percent and have my eyes set firmly on the Protea shirt. It is all or nothing for me.
