Former Manchester United midfielder explains why he is excited by Christian Eriksen transfer

Former Manchester United star Quinton Fortune has detailed just how impressed he is with the club's decision to sign Christian Eriksen this summer.

United, who will be looking to maintain their winning start to pre-season when they face Crystal Palace in Melbourne on Tuesday, officially announced the arrival of the Denmark international on Friday. He has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Old Trafford after turning down a new offer at Brentford.

Eriksen joined the Bees on a short-term deal back in January after leaving Inter Milan. He made a telling impression during his short stint in west London, scoring one goal and grabbing four assists in just 11 Premier League appearances, helping Thomas Frank's side comfortably avoid relegation.

His performances in Brentford colours attracted a wave of interest, and United found themselves in a heated battle to secure his signature. However, they did enough to come out on top, ensuring the 30-year-old has strengthened Erik ten Hag's midfield options.

And for former Reds ace Fortune — who played for the club between 1999 and 2006 — he will add a wealth of creativity to the squad. He is also aware of his ability to score goals himself.

"We've been missing some creativity, this guy has got creativity," Fortune told the UTD Podcast. "Whoever's playing up front needs to make the run, he will find you.

"This guy has got so much balance, imagination, [and] he can score goals for you. We need to get the ball to him."
