Former Man United goalkeeper makes shock claim about 'gap' to Man City

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich believes the Reds have "closed the gap" on neighbours Manchester City despite losing 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the derby on Sunday afternoon.

United, to their credit, performed well in the first-half, despite going into the break 2-1 down after Kevin De Bruyne struck either side of Jadon Sancho's equaliser. However, they were nothing short of shambolic in the second-half, with City adding another two goals to their tally without having to get out of first gear.

Every pass, following Riyad Mahrez's first of the contest to make it 3-1, was greeted with a chorus of 'ole's from the City fans, with United applying no pressure to Pep Guardiola's players. They also failed to register a single second-half shot, highlighting how poor their display was as they attacked the end where their supporters were housed.

But despite being heavily beaten, and not for the first time in the Premier League this season, Bosnich, who had two spells at Old Trafford during his career, believes United, even if only slightly, have improved since they were beaten 2-0 by City at Old Trafford back in November.

"Since they last met at Old Trafford, as when Manchester United played Liverpool in that period, a gaping gap, it really was, it was really hard to take," Bosnich told talkSPORT. "I still thought Manchester City would win [on Sunday], but I was very interested to see whether or not Manchester United had closed that gap a little bit.

"On reflection, I think the gap has closed a little bit, but it is still very very wide.
