Former Man City kid hopes Airdrie can be catalyst to fire him back to top level

Airdrie summer signing Terrell Agyemang admits he hopes to use the Diamonds as a springboard to get back to the top level after starting out at Manchester City.

The 21-year-old Londoner, who can play in midfield or at right-back, has joined Rhys McCabe's men on loan from English Championship side Middlesbrough, as he looks to boost his development in North Lanarkshire.

Just over a year ago, Agyemang won Premier League 2 with Man City's U21s alongside the likes of winger Oscar Bobb, who has now been promoted to the first team squad under Pep Guardiola, and striker Carlos Borges, who has gone on to star for Ajax after making a £17.3m move last summer.

Agyemang - who has netted twice in his first four games going into today's Championship opener at home to Raith Rovers - hasn't yet followed the same trajectory as his former youth team-mates, but hopes Airdrie can be the catalyst for a brighter future.

He said: "Sometimes you have to take a step down to get back up. I'm just coming here to enjoy my football and show what I can do.

"Oscar Bobb was someone I played with and he is in the Man City first team now, Carlos Borjes has gone to Ajax and Shea Charles has pushed on [to Southampton's first team], so it's good to see them do well.

"Coming to Airdrie, it's the same principles as when I was in the youth system at Man City so I'm just trying to implement that in first team games here and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

"From the outside looking in, people might have the impression there is a lot of pressure at Man City, but when you are in there, it's not as much pressure. You're told to play with freedom.

"From that, I don't play with fear on the pitch, I enjoy what I do and the rest of it will take care of itself.
