Former Hearts ace hopes he's still a Motherwell player next season

Sam Nicholson admits he would love to be a Motherwell player next season, but needs a few ducks to land in a row.

The 29-year-old signed a short-term deal in January, on loan from Colorado Rapids, and is contracted in the USA until December.

Former Hearts midfielder Nicholson hopes something can be sorted out, but hinted that it’s time to bring his young family home to Scotland after six years away.

He said: “It’s something that we’ll talk about with the club.

“I’ve stressed many times that if I’m here next season then brilliant. It’s something that’s getting explored, so we just need to wait and see.

“I’m going to get away for some relaxing time and think over my options.

“But I’ve loved it. It’s my first time I’ve been on loan, the fans have been incredible, travelled in numbers to away games, and it’s a great dressing room.

“It’s probably one of the best dressing rooms I’ve been in, and I’m not saying that because I’m here, it’s genuinely true.

“The boys in there, there’s not one bad person there.”

On returning home, Nicholson said: “It would settle me in Scotland and that’s important to me as well.

“I’ve spoken with my wife about this, being abroad and taking the little one away from family should probably be done by about now, because the little man’s getting older and he’s going to start school, soon.

“It’s something that I’ll look to.”

Nicholson reckons Motherwell should be looking for top six next season, and was disappointed to lose 2-1 to St Johnstone in their finale on Sunday.

He said: “The game had everything. I thought we started all right, and as soon as the goal went in it was a bit of a sucker punch.

“But that point I think we needed to get together.
