Former Golden Eaglet, Amoo, not jailed by Danish court, says agent

Nigerian striker Akinkunmi Amoo who plays for FC Copenhagen faces sexual assault charges in Denmark.

Representatives of former national U-17 football team, Golden Eaglets, midfielder, Akinkunmi Amoo, UDE Sports Management Agency, have denied reports that their player has been jailed by a Danish court following conviction for indecent assault, attempted rape and rape in a sexual relationship other than intercourse.

Last weekend, a Danish court sentenced a player, whose name was withheld to one-year imprisonment with deportation from Denmark and a ban from entering the country for six years to follow.

The court did not mention the name of the player. But some Nigerian media outlets reported that the culprit is Amoo, who plays for Danish outfit, FC Copenhagen.

Although his representatives, UDE Sports Management Agency, confirmed that Amoo is the player in question, they refuted the story that he has been jailed. They said the case is blackmail, which their lawyer is fighting to ensure those involved do not succeed with their plot.

According to allnigeriasoccer.com, UDE Sports Management Agency’s Chairman, Uche Dominic Egbukwu, has released a statement to condemn the act and disclosed that Amoo is still training with his Danish club, FC Copenhagen.

“I have spoken to my player and his club officials and they have confirmed to me that the news about his conviction to jail is not the correct narrative and he is presently training with the club.

“He was not sent to jail, no house arrest. The case is ongoing in court. The judgment was delivered last week Friday and our lawyer has appealed. He can’t make an official statement because of the name ban in the Danish press.

“Unfortunately, this case is blackmail and we will continue to fight
