Former Chelsea star 'files for divorce' after discovering twins he raised were fathered by wife's ex

Former Chelsea star Geremi has asked for a divorce after finding out that the children he thought were his, were actually fathered by his wife's ex. Court papers in Cameroon, shared by The Sun, reveal that the retired footballer, 45, discovered that the twins he believed were his, were actually fathered by his wife Laure's previous husband.

The papers, which were leaked to media in Yaounde, claim that she "destroyed the harmony" of their marriage with her "repeated lies." The twins were born in June 2008, four years before Geremi and Laure got married. The court papers also state: "No children have been born from this union... [and] the discovery that the children were from her previous partner destroyed the couple's harmony."

Geremi said that this revelation has "psychologically damaged him" and caused "a huge emotional shock." He described the news, which came after a paternity test, as a "serious and renewed violation of the duties and obligations of marriage.", reports the Mirror.

Geremi, who was capped 118 times by Cameroon, won an Olympic gold medal at Sydney 2000 and two African Cup of Nations titles in 2000 and 2002. He played for Chelsea between 2003 and 2007, during which time he won two Premier League titles. Before moving to West London, the midfielder had a successful stint with Real Madrid, winning a Spanish league and two Champions League titles, followed by a season on loan at Middlesbrough.

He also played for Newcastle United for two seasons, helping them clinch the Championship title in 2009-10. After that, he moved to play in Turkey and Greece before retiring in 2011. Since hanging up his boots, he's been actively involved with FIFPRO, the players' union. He's expressed his desire to become a manager
