Bobby Hunt, a former do-it-all football standout for the Auburn Tigers, has died. He was 85.

The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, which inducted Hunt in 2015, confirmed his death. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends," the hall wrote in a tribute shared to Facebook.

Details on Hunt's cause of death were not immediately made public.

At Lanett High School in Alabama, Hunt played quarterback and defensive back. He also spent time at both the punter and punt returner positions.

He took that all-around talent to Auburn, where he continued to play quarterback and safety.

Hunt was coached by Ralph "Shug" Jordan at Auburn. According to AL.com, Hunt's talent was noticed by Auburn's top rival. Famed former Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant once described Hunt as "just a great football player — that’s all."

After his two-way college football career, Hunt was picked by the Dallas Texans in the 11th round of the 1962 American Football League draft.

Once he reached the professional ranks, Hunt focused strictly on safety. He recorded eight interceptions as a rookie and earned first-team All-AFL honors before the Texans relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1963 and became the Chiefs.

Three seasons later, Hunt was in the starting lineup when the Chiefs faced the Green Bay Packers in the first Super Bowl.
