Former Arsenal star highlights Granit Xhaka's new role following key Edu £45m transfer coup
Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre has highlighted the role Gabriel Jesus is playing in releasing Granit Xhaka's attacking threat for Mikel Arteta's side.
Jesus arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Manchester City after technical director completed a £45million deal to poach the Brazilian striker for their Premier League rivals. Since joining the club, Jesus has shown he has the ability to lead the attack after scoring twice against Leicester and providing two assists in the same match after a stellar pre-season.
Granit Xhaka has divided opinions amongst Arsenal supporters in the past but has started the season in fine form, seemingly taking up a new role in Arteta's midfield after his performance against the Foxes. Silvestre has hinted that Jesus is allowing the Switzerland international to show a different side to his game as the Gunners look to continue their brilliant start to the 2022/23 campaign against newly-promoted side Bournemouth this weekend.
Speaking to bettingexpert, Silvestre believes the new role Xhaka has taken up following Jesus' arrival will see Arsenal become more of a threat in different ways against teams this season. “I think he (Granit Xhaka) can be a threat in the box now more than he has been in the past," Silvestre said.
“Because of his understanding of the game, he is very good at that, and I think that he is one of the men from the midfield that he can make those runs and play passes and threats into the box. When Jesus leaves those areas you will expect Xhaka to make those more than (Thomas) Partey, for example, so it is good that it is another attacking threat for Arsenal.”
