Tottenham Hotspur suffered their second league defeat of the season under Antonio Conte after they were beaten by Southampton on Wednesday evening.

The north London outfit threw away a 2-1 lead with ten minutes to go in what has to be considered a late capitulation to inflict back-to-back defeats on the Italian head coach.

Truth be told, it would’ve been unfair for the Lilywhites to walk away with the victory and on the basis of the 90 minutes, the right side came out on top.

It was another cagey outing in defence for the likes of Emerson Royal and Davinson Sanchez, particularly the latter who was dragged out of position for Southampton’s first and played another damaging role in the winner.

However, for all of the defensive criticisms, Spurs just didn’t do enough in midfield or attack to truly assert some dominance on the game and that’s where much of the fault must lie.

Harry Winks, for example, was once again trusted to start in the absence of Oliver Skipp, being selected over deadline day signing Rodrigo Bentancur but he was average and underwhelming, as he often is in the heart of the pitch.
