Forget Giako: Celtic's 74-pass "easy target" proved his true worth to Ange vs County - opinion
Celtic’s march towards the Premiership title continued on Saturday afternoon, with Ange Postecoglou’s side brushing aside Ross County 4-0 at Parkhead.
The victory sees the Bhoys move six points clear at the top of the league table – with the Hoops’ Old Firm rivals set to face Dundee FC at the Kilmac Stadium on Sunday – something that puts the 56-year-old manager’s side in an extremely solid position ahead of the potentially season-defining Glasgow derby on April 3.
However, aside from the positives surrounding the result, a number of Celtic’s individual displays will also have delighted the Greek-Australian coach on Saturday, with hat-trick hero Giorgos Giakoumakis, club captain Callum McGregor and Portuguese sensation Jota all highly impressing on the day.
Although, while his own display was certainly less eye-catching than the aforementioned trio, Greg Taylor quietly turned in another sublime performance on the left of Celtic’s back four against County – with the defender quickly becoming an extremely important player under Postecoglou.
While the defender has come in for criticism at times following his 2019 move to Parkhead – with Kris Commons previously claiming that Celtic fans saw the 24-year-old as an “easy target” – the £1.58m-rated man demonstrated on Saturday exactly why he is now the club’s unanimous first-choice in the position.
Indeed, over his 90 minutes on the pitch against County, the Scotland international enjoyed a whopping 105 touches of the ball – the third-most of any player – completed 74 passes – once again the third-most in the match – found his intended target with five long balls, made one clearance and won five duels.
These returns saw the left-back earn a very respectable SofaScore match
