Forensics at scene as police still hunting gunman after 'targeted attack' that left man fighting for life

Forensics remain at the scene of a reported shooting after a man in his 20s remains fighting for his life in hospital. Police responded to reports of gunshots in Cheetham Hill just before midnight on Wednesday (June 21).

A man was found lying unconscious in the street before being rushed to hospital from the scene. He is in a life-threatening condition with a serious head injury.

Detectives, who are treating the incident as attempted murder, are still hunting the gunman. Investigations remain ongoing with a scene in place on Ermington Drive.

Forensics were pictured within the cordon throughout the day on Thursday (June 22) as evidence markers were placed on the ground.

Greater Manchester Police say it is being treated as a 'targeted attack' and that there will be an increased presence of officers patrolling the area over the coming days.

The force is appealing for witnesses who were in the vicinity of Ermington Drive or anyone who may have any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, to come forward.

DCI Nicola McCulloch of GMP’s Major Incident Team, who is leading the investigation said: “Firstly, I want to address the communities who are living and working within the area and to reassure you that our primary aim is to protect you.

“We appreciate how concerned you must be but we can reassure you that this was a targeted attack, albeit one which has left a young man with extremely serious injuries.

“Firearms discharges within Greater Manchester will not be tolerated and as such, we are working round the clock to locate and lock up the offender(s) responsible for this shooting.
