Foreign Office changes Italy guidance for UK travellers

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has amended its guidance for Italy and a number of other countries as the government department continues to keep UK travellers safe and well-informed. One of the FCDO's many roles is to provide updates about some 226 overseas nations and territories.

In a new update on Sunday, the Foreign Office said it had changed its travel guidance for Italy. A new gov.uk alert reads: "Severe weather and flooding is affecting many areas of Italy, particularly Emilia Romagna and Liguria. Rail services and roads may be affected. The website of Ferrovie dello Stato has more information (in Italian only).

"Check with your tour operator or accommodation provider before you travel and follow the instructions of local authorities. The website of the Civil Protection Department has more information."

Elsewhere, the FCDO has also changed guidance for Cuba, due to Hurricane Oscar which is "expected to make landfall on the north-eastern coast of Cuba". The FCDO added: "Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in eastern Cuba on Monday and Tuesday. You should monitor updates from the US National Hurricane Center."

And advice for travel to Mozambique has been amended, as the FCDO said: "There is a protest march scheduled for 21 October 2024 in the city of Maputo. There is the possibility of some disruption to services and transport within the city.

"In Mozambique demonstrations and protests can be unpredictable, occur at short notice and may turn violent. Pay attention to your surroundings, stay away from crowds and monitor the local media." The FCDO continues to advise against all travel to Mozambique.
