Footballers step up to help Sheffield food bank after 'relentless' two years

A self-styled fat lads football team is joining forces with a Sheffield food bank in a bid to bring in donations and lend a helping hand.

Sheffield & Wakefield Man V Fat FC , a team with a difference, is hoping to make a difference through its partnership with the S6 Foodbank.

Based in Gilpin Street, the charity , which helps thousands of families and individuals across the entire city, says it has faced a "relentless" two years.

And the football squad, made up entirely of men whose BMI is 27.5 or over, who play competitively across the region with the aim of losing weight, is eager to help.

Wishing to support communities, they have teamed up with the food bank in the hope of volunteering and handing over food and toiletries to replenish stock.

Guy Bell, who helps run the team, said: “Obviously it’s great to see the work the S6 Foodbank is doing, but in an ideal world these kinds of places wouldn’t have to exist.

“Unfortunately, lots of people aren’t in the position to have proper meals or even just have toilet paper at home so, being chubby lads, we are probably in as good a position as anyone to hand over some food.

“We will have regular collections during our training sessions and matches. Hopefully we can do whatever we can to help out the foodbank and the people of Sheffield who rely on them.”
