Football's funniest goal? Javier Hernandez's Man Utd goal in 2010 Community Shield

Javier Hernandez once scored what is quite possibly the most ridiculous goal you’re ever likely to see anywhere.

The Mexican was making his domestic debut for Manchester United after setting the 2010 World Cup alight and earning himself a transfer to the big-time.

He’d enjoyed an impressive pre-season with the club, scoring two goals against foreign opposition and came into the fixture with plenty of Red Devils fans eagerly anticipating his arrival.

Although, many were left disappointed to find ‘Chicharitio’ occupying a spot on the subs bench and not a single new signing for either United or Chelsea out on the turf.

Nevertheless, they didn’t have to wait too long to see their new man and in the second-half United’s striker entered the proceedings.

Lively as ever, Hernandez charged around the pitch eager to make an impression on his new team and fans.

And in the 70th minute, well, let’s just say he succeeded in doing that in a rather peculiar fashion…

After Antonio Valencia got in behind Chelsea’s left-back, Hernandez charged towards the six-yard box, eager to capitalise on the acres of space in the area and tap home.

It was the type of opportunity that’s a striker’s bread and butter – textbook if you could ever define it.

But, there was absolutely nothing textbook about what happened next…

Hernandez attempted to smash the ball into the roof of the net, however lost his footing and fell over as he connected with the ball.

The result? Well, the debutant smashed the ball directly onto his face only for it to ricochet past the perplexed Chelsea keeper and into the net.
