Man United must make Marcus Rashford transfer call for the good of the team and the player

With seasons getting underway and the clock ticking down on the transfer window, some clubs will begin to panic as August passes by and they desperately try and plug the gaps in their squad they have neglected for the last two months.

Manchester United know that all too well as they considered signing Marko Arnautovic to bolster their threadbare attacking options, but pulled out due to fan backlash and Bologna's demands. As we creep closer to the September 1 deadline it will be fascinating to see which other ageing or unfulfilled strikers they will be linked with. Mauro Icardi is the latest, but who will be next? Gonzalo Higuain? Andre-Pierre Gignac? Diego Costa?

Maybe they'll get Edinson Cavani back in for another year or take up Javier Hernandez on his offer to play for free - nothing would be surprising now. United are in dire need of at least one forward, though a winger, as well as a striker, would be ideal - but they're struggling.

The prospect of them having to then go out and replace Marcus Rashford is absolutely laughable. There is absolutely no way they can sell the England international this summer. Reports from France emerged on Thursday night suggesting Paris Saint-Germain are interested in adding the forward to their already healthy arsenal and that talks had been held.

They cited the fact that Rashford's contract expires in 2023 as a positive indicator in PSG's chase but, while his current deal does run out next summer, United hold the option to extend it by 12 months. It's an option United nearly always insert in their contracts these days and one they just as often take - even Tahith Chong got his deal extended this
