Football Meets Football: Tony Meola showed how hard it is to switch between soccer and NFL

It would seem that there has always been an interest from some involved in football that would like to test themselves out in the NFL, but if you ask Tony Meola, then they might find it is not the easiest of things to do.

Some may have heard that Harry Kane and Christian Fuchs are amongst those that would not mind trying their hand at being a kicker in the NFL, however the odds of them being able to achieve that might just be firmly against them.

According to JOE, just six players have been able to convert from the game we know in Europe as football to American Football, with Toni Fritsch, Toni Linhart, Chris Bahr, Neil O’Donoghue, Matt Bahr and Josh Lambo having all been able to make appearances.

The dream, though, is one that is shared by a number of players and has seen many of them fail.

Former Chelsea and Milwall striker Derek Smethurst was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1977 and failed miserably as he could not get to grips with the “cultural” side of things, whilst a famous U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team goalkeeper was also part of a failed experiment back in the 1990s.
