Footage of peak Mike Tyson turning drills into KOs is absolutely fascinating

Mike Tyson is widely considered to be one of the greatest boxers of all time, his explosive speed and frightening punching power earned him 50 wins from 58 fights, winning an incredible 44 by knockout.

Iron Mike was fiercely competitive and trained religiously on his fighting style and technique, but this amazing video gives us an insight into how Tyson turned his training into brutal knockouts.

Tyson can be seen learning and perfecting incredible movements with his trainer Kevin Rooney, who trained Tyson for 35 of his professional bouts.

With Rooney in his corner, Iron Mike never lost – winning 31 of those fights by knockout.

The astonishing video covers numerous training exercises and how they translated into ferocious knockouts.

The first drill is a jump turn – allowing Tyson to change his angle instantly. Taught as a way to get away from the ropes, the multi-stance fighter used it to great effect – earning countless knockouts.

Another drill in the video showcases Tyson extreme speed, allowing him to shift his body quickly to dodge a number of jabs.

He alternates head movements whilst aggressively moving forwards his opponent, a move that would directly translate into a mind-blowing knockout.

The iconic strike came in 1986, when Tyson blew away Reggie Gross after dodging a ridiculous barrage of punches.

The comments were loving the footage, with one fan saying:

“Tyson was elusive so fast and so ferocious. Never seen anything like him before or later ever since”

Another said:“My goodness! That hook. Just watching that slow mo of that flurry of punches by Gross and all of those missed and Tyson was able to counter off of that. That lets you know Tyson, fully trained and motivated was something special.”
