Folkestone Invicta get a weekend off after 3-0 loss to Billericay which saw Tom Derry controversially sent off for a challenge on the goalkeeper

Folkestone Invicta boss Andy Drury believes the break has come at a good time for his team.

They’ve got time to reflect on a busy first month of the season and Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Billericay - overshadowed by a dismissal for Tom Derry that went viral online.

It’s been a mixed bag for Drury’s side, taking four points from their first two games and heading for another before the match at Wingate was abandoned late on at 3-3.

A win over Hastings came in between defeats to Cray Valley, Ramsgate in the FA Cup and Billericay at the weekend.

Derry’s red card was their fourth dismissal of the season so far.

Drury, speaking to Invicta TV, said: “We have three or four playing with injuries, knocks and niggles, so we probably need it (a break). It’s probably come at a good time.

“We were always probably going to reflect after these first six games because we knew how difficult they would be.

“We will have a look at the squad, see what we can and can’t do and prepare for Hendon (at home next Saturday, September 21).

“We’ll work hard over the two weeks in training - we won’t have a day off - we’ll be in working and look to go again after the break. We were obviously disappointed with the result [against Billericay]. I thought first half we were by far the dominant team, it was a superb 45 minutes from us.

“We could have easily been two or three-nil up at half-time and we weren’t ruthless enough.

“It has come back to bite us.

“I thought we started the second half fairly well, first five minutes, but they’ve scored with their first chance which knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit.
