Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor rematch: Money takes swipe at Notorious

Floyd Mayweather looks set to take on Conor McGregor in a boxing bout once again, with the retired champion claiming an exhibition fight with Notorious is on the cards.

Back in 2017, Money took to a professional bout for the final time, retiring with a ridiculously impressive 50-0 record after a tactical knockout victory over Conor McGregor in Las Vegas. It was no surprise given the legacy and GOAT status of Mayweather in comparison to the rookie boxing ability of McGregor, despite being a combat sports specialist in his own right.

However, instead of an exhibition it could be a professional bout according to Mayweather, so could we see the all-time great go 51-0?

Currently, Mayweather is gearing up for a trip to Japan for an exhibition fight with Mikuru Asakura before travelling to Dubai in November.

Talking about the potential rematch with McGregor, he said: “’I want to go out there this weekend and have fun [against Mikuru Asakura]. Then I have another exhibition Dubai in November and me and Conor McGregor in 2023.

“We don’t know if it’s going to be an exhibition or a real fight. But there’s been talks of both. I would prefer an exhibition.

So even though he would refer an exhibition bout, there’s no ruling out another professional rematch, with Mayweather’s perfect record back on line once again.

Taking on McGregor is a great money spinner for Mayweather, who took home a reported $280 million from the first bout with the UFC star. Maybe that’s why McGregor hasn’t made any plans for a return to the Octagon despite still being in training.
