Five things Erik ten Hag must look for as he watches Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

Erik ten Hag has already started his work as Manchester United manager and he'll be in the stands to watch his new side on Sunday.

Ralf Rangnick will bring United's dreadful season to a close when his side travel to Crystal Palace before he hands the reins over to the Dutchman. A win is needed to ensure Europa League qualification. If United drop points and West Ham beat Brighton, they will face the ignominy of the Europa Conference League.

With the match set to be a competitive affair, Ten Hag could learn plenty about his new players. Here are five things he needs to keep an eye out for.

1 - Captain candidates

Harry Maguire has had an extremely difficult season which has led to his captaincy being questioned. With his form continuing to plummet, many have suggested that taking the captaincy off him so he can focus on improving his own game could be a positive. Especially as it would also allow Ten Hag to make a fresh start and name his own skipper.

The issue is, however, that there is a dire lack of candidates. Bruno Fernandes has been vice-captain in Maguire's recent absence but has also come in for criticism for constantly pointing at and complaining to his teammates. Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea, as the squad's senior stars, may also be considered - but that's about it.
