Five of the best parks in Greater Manchester to take the kids on a sunny day

Summer has been a bit of a let down this year, if we’re being honest. It felt like the rain never stopped in July, and even August got off to a rubbish start.

But it looks like things have finally taken a turn for the better. The sun has returned to Greater Manchester with the Met Office forecasting highs of up to 24C in the coming days.

With a couple more weeks left of the summer holidays left there’s still plenty of time to get outside with the kids and make the most of the better weather. We’ve rounded up some of the best parks in the region to head to in the coming days, each one offering family-friendly activities.

There’s nothing like being by the water on a sunny day and Chorlton Water Park is a gorgeous spot to visit when the sun is shining. There’s a play area where kids can burn off some energy and several picnic benches dotted around the lake.

It’s a great place to take little ones who are keen on nature too as the area is home to a wide variety of wildlife, especially water birds. The walk around the lake isn’t too long, either, so it’s ideal for little ones.

As Manchester’s biggest park, it goes without saying that Heaton Park has a lot to offer on a sunny day. Covering an area of over 600 acres, there’s no risk of struggling to find a picnic spot here.
