First image released of Greater Manchester's £75m inland surf park amid major update after two-year delay

A specialist team has been brought in to deliver the £75m inland surf park at TraffordCity. Tartan Leisure - the organisation behind the soon-to-be-complete Lost Shore Surf Resort in Edinburgh - have now announced they will take over the project, started by McKinney Group, after a two-yer delay to the scheme.

It will be the first inland surf attraction in the north of England and is set to be a ‘must-visit’ location for surfing enthusiasts for the first time, according to waterside regeneration specialist Peel Waters, which is overseeing the huge development. Using inland surfing technology, ‘Powered by Wavegarden’; the TraffordCity attraction will give surfers access to innovative new technology that can produce 1,000 waves every hour at different intensities and have the capacity for up to 90 people to surf at any one time.

Planning permission for an inland surf destination was approved in 2021. Once completed, it is estimated to create up to 140 new full-time jobs during peak times. Peel says that the new surfing destination will 'further enhance TraffordCity’s expanding portfolio of sport-based leisure and experience offerings', which already includes skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, and skydiving as well as being the home of Trafford Golf.
