First Division wrap: Cork City keep up relentless march towards the title

Cork City kept up their relentless towards the SSE Airtricity Men's First Division title with a 3-1 win at Wexford FC on Thursday night.

The Leesiders fell behind with just four minutes on the clock when Aaron Dobbs finished off a Thomas Oluwa cross from close range.

However their lead did not last long. In the 15th minute Cathal O'Sullivan emphatically volleyed home the equaliser after good work from Evan MCLaughlin.

Wexford kept battling, but th epoints were sealed in stoppage time when Jack Doherty punced against his old club to ensure Cork City remain 15 points clear of second-placed Athlone Town.

Athlone had to work hard to dig out a 2-1 victory away to third-placed UCD.

Dean Ebbe put the midlanders ahead with a 32nd-minute penalty. Another penalty, this time from Kyle Robinson three minutes before the hour mark had them cruising, but Niall Holohan's strike eight minutes from time had Athlone sweatng a bit before they ultimately saw it out.

Finn Harps are up to fourth after they defeated Kerry 1-0 in Donegal, Sean Patton's 36th-minute goal settling it.

Bray Wanderers and bottom side Longford Town looked like they'd play out a stalemate at the Carlisle Grounds until Adam Wixted won it for the struggling visitors in the 90th minute.

There was late drama in Limerick too as Treaty United suffered a loss to Cobh Ramblers, for whom Jack Larkin was the hero, his 91st-minute effort earning them the points.
