First Division round-up: Cork extend unbeaten run

Cork City stretched their unbeaten league run to 19 games following a 3-1 win over Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Ground.

The away side were two goals to the good by the interval, Cian Murphy giving them the lead in the 14th minute before Jonas Hakkinen doubled their advantage from close range a minute from the break.

Bray had missed a number of chances in the first half, but they did find their way back into it just after the hour mark as Darragh Lynch headed home a Kurtis Byrne cross.

Cork regained their two-goal advantage through Ruairi Keating though before Conor Clifford was sent off for the hosts late on.

Galway kept the pressure on the league leaders with a 1-0 home win over Waterford.

The home side started in fierce fashion but were frustrated by the visitors and at half time the deadlock had not been broken.

That changed early in the second half though as Killian Brouder profited from a David Hurley corner for the only goal of the game.

Galway couldn't find the killer second and they had to be thankful for goalkeeper Conor Kearns who made a series of fine saves to ensure all three points.

Basement club Athlone’s woes continued as they suffered a 3-1 loss at Wexford.

Wexford took the lead through Aaron Dobbs late in the first half before Athlone equalised 20 minutes from time through half-time substitute Youri Habing who scored with a fine lob.

They were undone late on though as Conor Davis netted a penalty after Dinny Corcoran was brought down before the latter sealed the deal in the final moments.

Treaty United left Cobh with a 2-0 win after goals in each half.

Ben O’Riordan turned into his own net in the 16th minute before Willie Armshaw found the net seconds after being introduced.
