First Division round-up: Cobh and Athlone take the spoils
It was a night for the basement boys in First Division action as bottom side Cobh Ramblers hammered Bray Wanderers 5-1 away from home and Athlone Town saw off visiting champions Cork City 3-2.
In Bray, the home actually took the lead through Ben Feeney after seven minutes before a Luke Desmond equaliser five minutes later meant the sides went in at the half tied at a goal apiece.
After the break, it was all Ramblers. John Kavanagh put them ahead just before the hour mark before Liam Kervick made it 3-1 after 73 minutes.
The rout was complete late on when Beineon O'Brien-Whitmarsh hit the target in the 89th minute before Desmond got his second - and Cobh's fifth - late on in injury time.
In Athlone, the hosts came from two behind to take all three points. Dylan McGlade's fifth-minute opener for City was added to 11 minutes later by Barry Coffey. Gary Armstrong's goal brought Town back into the game before half-time.
In the second half, Noah van Geenan's equalised in the 70th minute and the comeback was completed by Aaron Connolly's 89th-minute winner for the Westmeath club.
The only other game of the evening between Wexford and Galway United finished goalless.
