Firefighters tackle blaze at recycling centre in Bury

Firefighters are battling a blaze that has broken out at a recycling centre in Radcliffe.

Fire crews were called to Cemetery Road Recycling Centre just before 12pm today (April 7) after a waste container went up in flames.

Two fire engines raced to the scene and crews are currently tackling the blaze. Images from the scene show smoke billowing from the recycling centre and a section of Cemetery Road taped off.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 12pm today, firefighters were called to reports of a fire at Cemetery Road Recycling Centre in Radcliffe.

“Two fire engines from Whitefield and Bury fire stations quickly arrived at the scene, where a waste container had caught fire.

“Firefighters remain at the scene and are working hard to extinguish the fire.”
