Fire crews race to building after blaze breaks out at flat

Fire crews are on the scene at a residential building in Tameside this evening following a blaze in a flat.

Emergency services raced to Park Street in Ashton-under-Lyne at around 5pm on Saturday (July 20) after reports of a building fire.

Crews removed a 'pan of food' from a cooker that had set alight, and remain at the scene to tackle the fire.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 5pm this evening (Saturday 20^th July), five fire engines from Ashton, Stalybridge, Chadderton, Hollins and Gorton fire station were called to reports of a building fire involving a Flat on Park Street, Ashton.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters removed the pan of food from the cooker that had caught fire and used specialist equipment to ventilate the flat.

“Firefighters have been in attendance for around forty minutes and are still at the scene.”
