The pub which was formerly run by Greene King closed in 2020 and never reopened. It has been abandoned since with planning applications put in to bulldoze it and change its use since then.
A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "Shortly before 6pm this evening (Saturday 29 April) we received the first of several reports of a fire at a disused commercial premises on Manchester Road, Timperley.
"Five fire engines, an aerial platform and a Technical Response Unit from across Greater Manchester were quickly mobilised to the scene, where they found a room on the first floor of the building well alight. Crews swiftly devised a plan to tackle the incident and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have been using hose reels and a covering jet to extinguish the flames and prevent further spread.
"GMFRS crews remain in attendance at this time."
