Fire crew rush to Stockport blaze as smoke seen billowing into air

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a 'derelict' building in Stockport this morning.

Crews are on the scene on Irvin Drive in Heald Green with four fire engines responding. The fire service said the blaze broke out on the first floor of a two-storey derelict building.

Pictures show smoke billowing into the air from the blaze. In a statement, a spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At just after 8.20am today (Friday March 1) four fire engines from Wythenshawe, Cheadle, and Stockport fire stations were called to reports of a fire involving the first floor of a derelict two-storey building on Irvin Drive, Heald Green.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using two hose reels to control the blaze. Crews remain in attendance."
