Fine results for Cambuslang Harriers athletes amid 75th anniversary celebrations

Cambuslang Harriers fielded several teams in the Scottish Short Course Championships, which made its return to Lanark Race Course after a two-year absence.

The club had teams in the under-15 boys and under-17 men’s 2k and 3k events, and in the separate 4k races for the senior/masters women and men.

Their senior men won a silver medal, while the U15 boys were fourth, and the senior women sixth.

Harriers trio Colin Feechan, Eddie Stewart and Dave Thom swept the M60 board, capturing gold, silver and bronze individual medals.

Just over 300 athletes took part in the senior women’s event, which was won by Eloise Walker.

Cambuslang’s Stefanie Tucker and Eve MacKinnon finished sixth and ninth, respectively.

With support from Hannah Addison and Catriona Bain, they finished sixth team.

Over 500 athletes took part in the men’s race, with Callum Tharme finishing fifth, followed three seconds later by Jamie MacKinnon in 10th.

Gavin Smith was 24th and Mike Christoforou 26th, clinching team silver medals in between defending champions Central AC and Edinburgh University in third.

Later that evening, Cambuslang Harriers held its 75th anniversary celebration dinner at Rutherglen Town Hall.

Just over 100 people were in attendance, including past and present members, and Lindsay McMahon, the national club manager for Scottish Athletics.

There were some surprises during the evening, including 40-year member Peter Ogden being awarded a life membership, and a new club sign manufactured by Willie Fairley was displayed, which will be positioned at the Coats Park grounds.

Sadly, in the same evening, former club president, coach and champion Andy Fleming passed away aged 94.
