House prices are constantly changing up and down the country depending on factors such as supply and demand and the state of the economy. If you've ever fancied finding out how much houses are worth where you live, our new interactive property tool can help.

Using our house prices gadget, you can check the latest average house price in your local area as well as look up any postcode across England and Wales. This will give you an indictication of the amount you can buy or sell a home for where you live, as well as checking if you can afford to move to a new area.

The figures released by the Land Registry are based on house sales in the 12 months up to the end of June 2024. The handy gadget also shows how much house prices have risen or fallen in each area over the last year.

The interactive map also reveals which areas in England and Wales offer the cheapest property prices. Middlesbrough Town Centre is the most affordable place to buy a home, with properties in the TS1 postcode area selling for an average of £67,593 each in the last 12 months.

Grimsby is the next cheapest place in our country to buy a home. Houses sold for £78,425 each on average in the DN31 postcode area. That’s followed by TS3 (Brambles Farm, Middlesbrough) where an average home sold for £83,878.

At the opposite end of the market, Mayfair has the highest average sale price of any postcode area in England and Wales, with houses selling for an average of £4,897,564. The SW1X area which covers Belgravia is the next most expensive place to buy a home in our country, with an average house price of £3,923,685 last year.
