Filip Kostic transfer latest: Tottenham tell Frankfurt their top price to sign left wing-back

Tottenham have reportedly set a figure of how much they are prepared to pay for Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic, although they are yet to make an official enquiry.

The left-sided defender, who can also play in midfield, is widely regarded as one the best wing-backs in European football – having starred for Frankfurt as they tasted Europa League glory this season.

The 29-year-finished the campaign with seven goals and an impressive 15 assists for a Frankfurt side that finished 11th in the Bundesliga but did have that famous win over Rangers in Seville.

And now multiple sources suggest that Tottenham are ready to make their move for the player.

German publication Frankfurter Rundschau states that the north London club are willing to pay €30m (£25.5m) for Kostic.

That’s a relatively low fee for an experienced Serbia international. However, it comes down to the fact that Kostic’s current contract runs out in the summer of 2023.

The report does add that no firm bids have so far been made for the player. But Frankfurt do not necessarily need to sell after securing a Champions League spot in Seville.

Much now depends on the player and whether he fancies another challenge at this fairly late stage of his career.

Filip Kostic would prove to be a very sound signing if he was to end up at Tottenham.

The Serb is well drilled in the left wing-back role, unlike Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon. The Spurs duo often end up not sure whether to push too far forward and leave Spurs’ back three exposed.

And with Reguilon tipped to head back to Spain, Kostic would give Conte’s team tremendous balance down the left.
