Filip Helander addresses Rangers future as defender admits he is clueless over contract extension talks

Rangers stopper Filip Helander admits he doesn't know if he has a long term future at Ibrox as he approaches the final year of his contract.

The towering centre-back endured a five month knee injury lay-off earlier this season but is back to full fitness.

His form for the Premiership champions has seen him brought back into the international set-up with Sweden.

Helander came on for the final five minutes of extra time to shore up their defence in the 1-0 win over Czech Republic last week, which saw them clinch a place in the World Cup play-off final against Poland.

While flying high for his country, he admits things aren't as certain back at Rangers.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and was coy over his long-term future in Govan.

When asked if talks had begun with Rangers over a new deal, he told Fotbollskanalen: " No, we have not talked so far.

"But there is more than a year left. We'll see what happens."

Helander also admitted he would like to return to former club Malmo at one stage - but it may be too soon for a move back to his homeland.
