Fifteen coaches, six years: Mammila latest to get Chippa chop in coaching Conga line out the door

DStv Premiership outfit Chippa United have ended their relationship with head coach Morgan Mammila after six months.

According to the Daily Dispatch, the club have reinstated Kurt Lentjies, who returned to the club earlier in February as an assistant to Mammila.

The club's decision comes after losing their last two league games, leaving them 13th in the league and only three points away from the relegation zone.

Mammila's appointment last September started on a high note, with the coach guiding the team to four straight league wins and becoming the first coach in the club's history to achieve such a feat.

However, despite leading the club to fifth place in the league at one point this season, his stint with Chippa appears to have ended.

While Chippa have yet to confirm the news, Mammila has already revealed that he is a "proud man" for his achievement and can walk away with his head held high.

"I am a proud man where I am with all that has happened during my time at Chippa," Mammila said.

"Let's be honest, I am not a superior coach. I just started yesterday, and even I wouldn't risk my status and give it to someone like me.

"That is why I am saying let’s congratulate Chippa for taking a good decision to hire me, and a decision he (Chippa United owner Siviwe "Chippa" Mpengesi) made all on his own without being influenced by anyone.

"He saw that I could be a good coach all by myself. I was shocked, I had not even expected it when he offered me a coaching position at the club."

Mammila joins a long and notorious list of coaches, including Gavin Hunt, Dan Malesela, Manqoba Mngqithi, Daine Klate and Ernst Middendorp, who have all been shown the door by the trigger happy Mpengesi.
