FIFA 23 breaks record for amount of players in first week

The FIFA series is one of the most recognisable franchises in the gaming world.

Each year, football fans line up to get their hands on the newest edition of the game. Whether you casually play with your friends or you grind to have the best Ultimate Team cards, you’re bound to have fun.

Some people criticise the yearly releases for being too similar to previous instalments, but FIFA 23 has many hooks to draw players in such as a new chemistry system, playable highlights in Career Mode and the huge addition of cross-platform online play.

The release of the new FIFA is a key date in the calendar for gamers. In fact, Electronic Arts have claimed that this year’s game broke records in terms of the number of players within the first week.

It’s said that FIFA 23 was played by over 10.3 million people during the first week of availability. This can be compared to 9.1 million players during the first week of the previous year’s edition.

EA Sports general manager Nick Wlodyka had the following to say about the new record, as per VGC: “The response from our fans has been nothing short of incredible, and we’re thrilled that our community is playing with their favourite players and teams across FIFA 23 in record numbers.

“With both the Men’s and Women’s World Cups and exciting updates to our women’s club football content in-game still yet to come, we’re just getting started on providing players with the most authentic and immersive experience yet.”
