Ferran Torres reveals why he decided to leave Man City following move to Barcelona

Former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres has admitted that he was determined to complete a move to Barcelona as soon as he learnt about their interest in his signature.

Torres, who started the season in a rich vein of form for City, completed a move to the Camp Nou at the end of December, returning to his homeland in a deal worth almost £50million.

The Spaniard, who joined City from Valencia in August 2020, was beginning to thrive as a central striker and there was genuine optimism that he could be the answer to City's search for a long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero.

However, Torres was courted by Barcelona, who used the most recent transfer window to add some much-needed fresh legs to the squad, and he has now admitted that it was his "dream" to return to La Liga as soon as he joined City less than two years ago.

"Barca is the best club in the world, everyone knows its history: it always fights for every title," said Torres, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

"When I left Valencia to go to Manchester City, I knew I would come back to play for one of the best teams in La Liga. It was my dream. And it has been fulfilled.

"When the option of Barca came up, from the first moment I said I wanted to come.

"After a good game against Italy, with the Spanish national team, Mateu Alemany [Barcelona's director of football] called my agent to tell him that Barca wanted me.

"When I found out, I told my agent that, whatever happened, I had to end up here."
