Ferguson 'buzzing' for more Brighton goals

Evan Ferguson has his sights set on more opportunities and goals after becoming Brighton and Hove Albion's youngest Premier League scorer against Arsenal on Saturday evening.

The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland forward prodded home a well-taken effort in the 77th minute.

The Gunners saw out a 4-2 victory at the Amex Stadium but it was a highly significant moment for ex-Bohemians man Ferguson.

The Seagulls next face Everton at Goodison Park on Tuesday night, and the exciting teenager is keen to kick on.

"A disappointing result, obviously we wanted to win the game, but on a personal level it's good to get the goal," Ferguson told Brighton's website.

"At the end we could have, depending on the offside goal, had another chance at it but that's the way it goes.

"I'm buzzing to get the goal. Hopefully I can just keep going and try and get another."

There's been plenty of praise coming the way of Ferguson, who made his senior Ireland debut against Norway in November, coming on as a 89th-minute substitute the 2-1 friendly defeat at the Aviva Stadium.

Brighton captain Lewis Dunk said: "He showed where he's at with the way he took the goal.

"He’s down to earth, a young kid with a great work ethic who gives his all in training and who is going to keep improving. I’m buzzing for him and hopefully there is a lot more to come from him."

Boss Roberto De Zerbi was also satisfied with Ferguson's impact, adding: "He's a good player, he has very big potential, like Sarmiento, like Encise, like Lamptey, like Billy Gilmour and Colwill.

"I think the game has been strange, a strange result, it was strange the way Arsenal scored. I'm happy for my players, for our performance against a great team."
