‘Fears...’ - James Pearce drops worrying injury update from Liverpool, scan now required

Reliable journalist James Pearce has confirmed that Liverpool forward Diogo Jota may have suffered a ‘recurrence’ of a hamstring injury.

The Portuguese goal-getter has been a superb signing for the Reds, but his 2021/22 season petered out a little as he failed to score in his last seven appearances of the campaign.

Jota then suffered a hamstring issue on UEFA Nations League duty with Portugal, ruling him out of action for a number of weeks and seeing him miss Liverpool’s opening two pre-season games.

While it was hoped that the 25-year-old would be back in the near future, a fresh update suggests that won’t be the case.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Pearce worryingly revealed that Jota has suffered the same hamstring injury again, with a scan set the determine the severity of it:

“Diogo Jota having a scan amid fears he’s suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury he’s only just recovered from.”

Jurgen Klopp has done little to allay those ‘fears’, telling the official club website before Crystal Palace: “Diogo is a concern. With Diogo it’s a muscle again.”

This is a huge blow for Liverpool with the start of the Premier League season slowly approaching, with Jota now possibly a doubt for the opening game against Fulham on August 6.

With Darwin Nunez still adjusting to life at his new club, the Portugal international may have earned regular minutes early in the campaign, potentially leading the line between Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

Jota’s stock has arguably fallen a little after a poor end to the season and the arrivals of Diaz and Nunez, but 34 goals in 85 appearances for Liverpool is testament to the goal threat he carries and it is vital that Klopp has him available as soon as possible.
