FC Groningen 'reach agreement' with Motherwell striker Kevin van Veen

Dutch side FC Groningen have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Motherwell striker Kevin van Veen to join the club.

Groningen, who were relegated from the Eredivise at the end of the season, tabled a bid for the 32-year-old last night, which the Steelmen are said to be considering. It is not known what fee they are offering, as yet.

And Dutch website FC Update are reporting that van Veen has agreed to return to his homeland should "final details and a medical be completed."

They claim the former PSV Eindhoven youth spoke with the club last week after a sensational season in Scotland, which saw him hit 29 goals in all competitions.

He also scored in 11 consecutive games to break a 103-year-old club record.

Van Veen still has one year left on his contract at Fir Park and Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell said before the end of the season it would take a 'life-changing' fee for the club to part with the player.

He said: “The one thing I do know is the only way Kevin would ever be happy about leaving this club is if he felt it was some sort of offer that would be life-changing for Motherwell.

“If it’s not, then Kevin van Veen will remain a Motherwell player."
