Faversham Town winger Kieron Campbell sustains potentially season-ending injury in 6-2 FA Trophy triumph against Horley Town; Lilywhites preparing for derbies against Herne Bay and Whitstable Town at Salters Lane

Popular Faversham Town winger Kieron Campbell could miss the remainder of this season.

Campbell, seventh on the Lilywhites’ list for appearances made since the club reformed in 2005 with just shy of 200 games played across two spells, had only just returned from a foot problem against Welling United, scoring a late leveller in the 1-1 FA Cup first qualifying round draw at Salters Lane.

He was handed a first Faversham start of the season in last weekend’s 6-2 FA Trophy second qualifying round triumph over Horley Town but saw his rotten injury luck continue.

Town manager Steve Watt revealed: “It looks like a ruptured achilles.

“I would imagine that’s him [out] for the season. I’m absolutely gutted for him.

“He had an infected wound in his foot for all of pre-season. He’d only just come back and Saturday was his first start.

“He looked good and sharp, and we were delighted to have him back. I’m really disappointed for him, personally, and for us as a club.

“I’m still hoping he will be around with the players.

"I certainly want him around the place, potentially on the sidelines with us and in the dressing room. He’s part of this football club.

"He has been for a while and, hopefully, will be in the future, as well.”

While Campbell’s latest blow was more of a freak injury, Watt lambasted the fixture schedule again as the Lilywhites’ relentless start to the season continues apace.

“The home games are always good,” said Watt, whose men have a derby against Herne Bay this weekend before Whitstable travel to Salters Lane on Tuesday. “You want to be at home as much as you can and make it a bit of a fortress.

“But as I’ve said before, the amount of fixtures we have played is ridiculous. It’s so unnecessary to be playing this amount
