Faversham Town striker Tashi-Jay Kwayie won’t set a goals target for the season but will take a game-by-game approach instead

In-form Faversham striker Tashi-Jay Kwayie is refusing to set any goal targets for the season.

Kwayie took his tally to 22 for the campaign with a hat-trick in Town’s 4-3 home win over Whitstable on Saturday.

But he’s not setting bold targets - much like Faversham’s promotion ambitions, they don’t need to be discussed.

“I don’t like to set targets, I just want to take it game by game,” said Kwayie.

“I try to score in every game I play, the more games I play then the more goals I’m going to score. If I play 40 games then I want to score 40 goals.

“It's obvious that we should be getting promoted, even before the season I didn’t know much about Faversham but it was obvious in non-league circles that we should be getting promoted.

“It doesn’t need to be said. It’s not spoken about at all.”

Kwayie’s goal return is all the more remarkable given he’s been used as an attacking midfielder by manager Tommy Warrilow.

The forward explained: “A lot of people think I’ve been playing as an out-and-out striker but it’s actually a more forward-midfield role.

“Saying that, half of the games I have been as a striker and that’s down to Tommy as he knows I’m quite versatile in those positions and I feel I can be a No.9 or No.10.

“As a striker if you get the right service you want to play as a nine but in derby games like Whitstable where you want to be amongst it more, then the midfield role is perfect for me.”

Kwayie’s committed his long-term future to Faversham and it’s clear that playing under Warrilow brings the best out of him.

“It’s brilliant to get a hat-trick,” he added. “I knew what all the boys were like before I came here and I’ve played under Tommy for about five years in total
