Faversham Town joint-manager John Embery looks ahead to FA Trophy tie at Grays Athletic

There is a chance for another slice of FA Trophy history for Faversham this Saturday and joint-boss John Embery wants to see his players rise to the occasion.

The Lilywhites last season reached the First Round - the furthest the club have ever gone in the competition since they reformed in 2005 - and despite being led by a new management team this term, they are now just one win away from repeating that feat.

They will visit Isthmian North high-fliers Grays Athletic - who are managed by one-time Ramsgate midfield loanee Lewis Dark - in the Third Qualifying Round.

“That’s another good game,” said Embery, whose team drew 1-1 at Chichester last Saturday in Isthmian South East through an early own goal.

“Whether you are at home or away, if you show the right discipline, desire and effort, you can win games.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s two teams on a pitch. It’s not as if we are playing in front of 60,000, there’ll be a few hundred there.

“You have to be able to rise above that and play. Our attitude is ‘Let’s go there and win the game.’”

Grays, who have beaten Faversham’s league rivals VCD (3-0) and Isthmian South Central Merstham (4-1) to reach this stage, have ex-Tonbridge striker Sam Bantick among their ranks. He netted his seventh goal of the season in their 2-0 victory on Saturday at Tilbury while midfielder Callum Watts, with Whitstable last season, is back at the club as well.

Faversham remain in the relegation zone having won only once in the league this season. But they have already knocked out Chichester (1-0) and FC Romania (3-2) in the FA Trophy.

If the match is level after 90 minutes, it will head straight to penalties.

The club are running a coach to Grays which is due to leave Salters Lane at midday.
