Fausto Vera in Celtic transfer boost with '50/50' statement but Genk slap in improved bid with endgame in sight

Celtic target Fausto Vera says he's ready for a new challenge and admits it's "50/50" that he'll be leaving Argentinos Juniors this summer as Genk ramped up their efforts to land the midfielder with an improved bid for his services.

Argentine midfielder Vera recently emerged as a potential midfield target with his countryman Alexandro Bernabei joining the Hoops earlier in the window. Both Genk and Corinthians were reported to have made bids, but their initial £3.4million offers were shown the door by his club - who are seemingly determined not to sell for any less than £5.5m.

Ange Postecoglou has recently pivoted to free agent Aaron Mooy who looks set to be announced imminently. The Australian midfielder will bolster a midfield that is already well stacked, with Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O'Riley, David Turnbull, Yosuke Ideguchi and James McCarthy all battling it out for places. Celtic are also set to land German centre-back Moritz Jenz.

And the latest reports on Vera suggest Genk could be his next destination - while Corinthians remain a live option. TYC Sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo notes on Twitter that the Belgian side have lodged an improved bid, and that's corroborated by Voetbal Nieuws in Belgium. Neither name a fee but it was previously reported Genk were willing to go as high as £5.1m to compromise with Argentinos.

Vera has fuelled the fire in recent days and deleted all mention of his current club from his social media. Despite that, Ambito expect him to start against Boca Juniors in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
