Faridabad boy Tavish breaks into top-20 of Asia Tennis Federation ranking

Asia Regional Qualifying 12 and under-Team Championships in Nepal by defeating Pakistan in the final. He became India’s No. 1 ranked player in the under-12 category according to the All India Tennis Association’s new rankings released in January 2022.

Tavish, who last competed in the Asian under-14 Grade ‘A’ category, finished runners-up in the doubles and fifth in singles. With this win, Tavish has moved into the top 10 in under-14 in India and is now ranked 17th in Asia. Tavish, who is a Grade 7 student in Shiv Nadar School Faridabad, has an inspiring story to tell.

Tavish’s interest in the sport grew after seeing his father and brother play the game. His idol is Novak Djokovic and that is evident in his playing style, which resembles that of Djokovic. Tavish diligently practices for 4-5 hours daily, undergoes strength and mobility training, and carries his books to all his tournaments.

The extreme passion and dedication that he exhibits at such a young age is something that we all can take inspiration from. Tavish started playing tennis at the age of 4 and competed in his first tournament four years later. Since then, he has won several titles by outshining opponents in the under-12 and under-14 age divisions.

Tavish became the country’s No. 1 player in the under-12 category at the beginning of the year and subsequently won the singles and doubles title at the National Championship that was held in Mumbai in February this year. Next, he will be playing at Fenesta Nationals Tournament in Delhi starting from October 17.
