'Fantastic' - Ex-Man City duo hail Jeremy Doku and Ederson after West Ham win

Ex-Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips eulogised Jeremy Doku after the new arrival inspired a 3-1 comeback victory over West Ham United.

A poor first half saw Pep Guardiola’s side trail at the break for the first time this season. But fears about losing - and gaining ground on their Premier League rivals - were quickly diminished as City bounced back and, ultimately, recorded a routine win.

Summer signing Doku was a constant threat, troubling Hammers full-back Vladimir Coufal throughout. The Belgian bagged his first City goal immediately after half-time with a cool finish into the bottom corner.

Fans are now excited about what the future may bring and, speaking to City’s YouTube channel after the game, former winger Wright-Phillips hailed the current incarnation bombing down the flanks. He said: “It was a fantastic finish. The part that caught my eye was how he got himself in that position. The jinkiness, the confidence to unsettle the defence to put yourself in the position where he knows the defenders can’t touch him.

“Then to have the maturity to look up and not shoot it, just pass it around the goalkeeper and into the side netting. Those are things you can’t teach people. He didn’t snatch at it, he didn’t rush. It’s almost like he took a deep breath and just passed it into the back of the net.”

Another ex-City star, David James, heaped praise on Ederson for keeping Guardiola’s side in the game. The pick of the saves was an acrobatic dive to stop Kurt Zouma from making it 2-1.
